I suppose I let their hype convince me this update would actually be meaningful and fix some issues that were really hampering the game for my tastes. No alterations to any wonder, or government type, or ways to create national parks. Lots of minimal (really, negligible) changes to unit strengths - often by the same amount or even less than if they were to march by Matterhorn or Giant's Causeway. Trade Routes only more ridiculous now than before. Nothing addressing the Diplomatic Victory - or the really strangely timed and poorly done (imo) 'World Congress. Heroes mode, Barbarian Clan mode both got judicious changes so the issue wasn't an unwillingness to alter the newer game modes Apparently I'll never play with them on again. Worse, no changes for secret societies which are really fun at first but so game breaking as to make them little more than a novelty.

Tourism problem from monopolies was magnified with changes to tourism, and otherwise went unaddressed leaving the need for a mod to increase the percent of total resources controlled to have a monopoly if you want to play with the mode without it being a game-breaking mechanic.
Maybe they ought to have focused on the weakest part of the game a bit more? Some civs seem to have been over-buffed (Mapuche & Spain appear to have went from underwhelming to wtf!) Some civs that desperately needed nerfs didn't get them (Portugal, Ethiopia, and Byzantium - funny how they are all from the Season Pass) Some civs that desperately needed buffed didn't get any changes (Cree Egypt) Nothing about older civs being changed to use some of the newer game mechanics. A few also only got start tier changes which also really doesn't count. That expands if you count the strength changes to certain units that spills over to UU - but sorry, that doesn't count as a real alteration to a civ/leader. Only 50% of civs received any targeted changes, many minor, some unnecessary. I am totally underwhelmed - haven't started a game in a week while waiting for this and now so put off I'll probably wait another week.
